Pain Management After Menopause – without Medication

Pain Management After Menopause

I had been in chronic pain from menopause related, hormonal changes for 4 years.

I longed to be free of pain, without using medication.

I feared a limited life, disability and dependence on pain medication. The pain was loud and distracting. The more I hurt, the less I wanted to move, even though I knew movement made me feel better.

Chronic pain was interrupting my sleep and I began to experience less stability in my shoulders when teaching, or taking, yoga and fitness classes. I had a profound fear that I would not be able to live my purpose and do what I love.

As I researched chronic, post-menopause pain I realized it was possible to flip the switch for sensory nerve communication and flood my brain with natural pain relief messages. This really resonated with me.

It feels great to be pain free. I am grateful for the domino effect of deeper sleep, more energy, improved focus and productivity. I enjoy more pain free movement now and feel alive again. It feels so good to be able to focus on other things without pain yelling at me!

From 2020 to Spring 2024, post menopause, I have been plagued with chronic pain. The whole body, debilitating pain from the hormonal changes. I was not a candidate for HRT, so I struggled, trying a variety of natural solutions without dependable results.

I found what works for me when I began to use magnesium oil, essential oils and self, deep-tissue, massage to diminish my pain perception. Now I feel younger, with less pain distraction. I am empowered to manage any future pain without medication as I enjoy a fulfilling life teaching yoga and fitness, hiking, riding horses, and playing with my grandson.

How did I do this?  Here are my Tried and True Pain Relief Routines

Pain Relief for Arthritic Shoulders

Magnesium is essential for nerve and muscle function, among many other functions. Applying magnesium oil topically has been shown to reduce pain from fibromyalgia. So, one night out of desperation, I tried it for shoulder arthritis. I sprayed it on each of my shoulders and rubbed it in before bed. I am pleased with the consistent pain relief in my shoulders and grateful to be able to sleep on either side now.

Hormonal Low Back Pain Relief

Essential oils have a long history of effectiveness with fewer side effects than medications. Over the years I have used herbal extracts for pain management, and decided to explore essential oils to manage the chronic hormonal low back pain I was experiencing. I now use a blend of wintergreen, camphor, menthol, peppermint, melaleuca and blue tansy oils mixed with castor and sweet alomond oils on my sacrum. They have been exceptionally effective in providing relief from chronic pain in my low back/sacrum. I apply it each night before bed and enjoy pain free sleep.

Profound Whole Body Pain Relief

One of my most disturbing menopause symptoms has been chronic, whole body pain. Movement has and does help, but it can be difficult to move when I am in so much pain that I'm also fatigued. I find some relief with in home red light treat/massage. I do not have to depend on others, it is affordable and portable. I can self treat anytime, anywhere.
