What does Confidence look like? Confidence is your verbal and most importantly non-verbal communication. It is taking up space, like your hands on your hips. Making eye contact and fronting the person you are speaking with. Fronting is directing your toes and torso toward the person.
Have you ever thought “Confidence, some people have it and others don’t. I don’t even want to speak in front of my small group.” What if I told you ‘Confidence’ is a trait, the one trait to make or break your success?
Would it help to know people are not born with confidence? Confidence is a strength and like any strength; muscle, will power, gardening or cooking, the more you do it/use it, the stronger you become.
Self doubt, you know that inner critic, the one who talks you out of trying something new; can get in the way of confidence and create roadblocks. Roadblocks create setbacks, detours and sometimes, you find yourself wandering around…lost and frustrated. Ugh! 😡
I was listening to the August 2015 Success CD while driving today. Darren Hardy was interviewing a Navy Seal. People want to know how to pass the physical fitness test for the Navy SEALS’ training program, known as BUD/S(Basic Underwater Demolition/SEALs). He tells them, whatever you are afraid of, that is the one thing you will need to overcome.
This is the same principle for each of us in life and in business. Whatever we are afraid of is what we must choose to face and overcome. Otherwise, it continues to hold us hostage and we will surely fail or look for the easy way, leaving our dreams by the wayside.
So back to Confidence. It is the key to overcome:
- setbacks quickly
- stop wasting time
- believe YOUR opinion doesmatter
- eliminate fears
- fulfill YOUR dreams
Knowing “Confidence is the unconquerable enemy of fear!” ~Regina Rowley, I faced a fear today. In recent years I developed an almost debilitating fear of driving on high rise exits, entrances & overpasses. Suffice it to say, I looked for ways to avoid them. Not today though. Another baby step forward found me smiling and more confident. 😉
I want to be in control of my life, not held back by my imgination or someone else’s opinion. I am taking back what others have taken from me in years past, my confidence. “I may have just one match, but I can make an explosion!” ~Rachel Platten
